Time to plant books

Please Plant This Book by Richard Brautigan. He’s one of my favorite authors. The Abortion: An Historical Romance 1966 might be my favorite, especially because I love the library in the text and the idea behind it.

My uncle passed away and I’m heading out today to be with family. I haven’t been posting, but there will also be no radio for me this week. I’m exhausted and the cold grey wind is right today. Be well, until later then.

Map Of the World…Radio

…keeps changing. Hello. Sorry for the no contact, two big excuses for ya: 1) my main beautiful computer took a giant crap and died on me, and 2) summer school started and I’m trying to be diligent this go around. And while my backup laptop was trying to follow suit in the crapping, I’m also trying to work out how upcoming partial unemployment will work out for me next month, visit with people, get outside and work the land and eat some of my yummy labors (fresh sugar snap peas, yay!), and all kinds of odd other bits of excuses. Yar, that kinda felt good to get out there. Grumbly! I hope you’re all well in the world!

So Tuesday is radio! Should be lovely to get out and drive to the station, the night air has been so fresh. It’ll be on 10pm to midnight PST, streaming here. See ya :)

Two-Toed Sloth Radio

It wasn’t a year, but I did take a “nap” that lasted for 14 hours yesterday. Shouldn’t under-eye circles disappear after something like that? Whatevs. So tonight I’ll strive to earn those circles! Should be no problem after an exhausting workday ;)

Radio. 10pm to midnight PST. Streaming here.

Dazy Day Sketch

little perfection

Mmm, these days are delicious. The days that make California the golden state. There’s not a thought of the out-of-control budget deficit, the lame ducks that aren’t helping matters any. I mean really, voting those props down means I want them to cut all that I hold dear, please…no. None of that actually.

rattles and flowers

After work and just moving to feel good now. Listening and walking to find the ranchero music in the air. The almost summer! Smells like charcoal and BBQ. Creeks drying up. Found half a light brown speckled egg shell.

i could spend my days here

Only a little sweat down my back. I could sit out here and read my days away here. Oh, I have been. Music wafts in on the wind from another party at the park.

oh light

I’ve been listening to another lovely Detroit band lately, April in the Orange. Psych spring into summer perfection. You’ll be hearing some in the coming days radio.

mio

A kind day. People surprising me, noticing my brief absence, sharing some of their joys, learning of tragedy, communicating and trying to. I do so love the library, it’s never dull.

dazy afternoon

Lunch out and a middle-aged woman came up, Do you mind, sitting down and started to compliment me, a classic beauty, your nose, face, eyes, I just couldn’t pass by without telling you, I hope you know. Really, well thank you, where are you heading? Oh how lovely, perfect day for it, and thank you again, how unexpected and kind.

***

I’m trying to get to my vacation photos, and there are even some videos (I went to see some live music, wooooo!), just gotta transfer ‘em from the ol’ laptop. Soon! Colorado girl! Also trying to make my way through the foot and a half of vinyl I picked up, to see what I’m keeping and what I’m selling. It’s hard to be discriminating on a day like today though, I just love something about it all.

Schools Out and I’m SOOOOOOO Ready Radio

Insert bad Alice Cooper impression here. Or just watch it (aaaawesome version I’d say):

So this hellish semester is finally done for a short spell. Or a long spell I won’t really know that one for a couple more weeks. I’ve moved up on the summer school waitlist and *knocking on all sorts of gawdamn wood* might actually get a class which would be most excellent so I don’t have a repeat multiplied by even worse for the final fall semester. Time time time. I think it’ll all be decent. One thing got turned in a bit late, but it is what it is, and it’s done!

My crispy fried brain will be attempting to wrap up important work related items in a timely fashion so I can possible get some time with the music before radio tonight.

Radio tonight! Yes indeed, come get your Ampli-fried Mixtape, 10PM to midnight, on KZYX&Z. If you’re local go left on the dial, if you’re not it’ll stream online here. I’ve gotten a whole slew/slough of new and old vinyl in the last couple weeks, think I’ll play some of that and some of this and that. Perhaps see ya then. xoxox

Really Awake

Weird. I just woke up twice. The first time in the most realistic way in my dream, the way it happens most mornings with the alarm going off and me jolting awake hoping it hasn’t been going for too long, hoping that I’m not late. Again. Well, I had this feeling it had already happened, as though I had hit snooze, so when I sat up and looked at the clock and saw it was just happening for the first time…strange. I need better dreams.

Testing for Amplified Mixtape

Omigawd, another post, the next day even *grin*!

Sun-filled, blustery cold days these days are. A remarkable citing (I love the street I work on!): A beautiful horse tethered to the overgrown railroad tracks. Mane in a series of braids, regally tall and well-fed amongst the random explosions of wildflowers.

DSCN0470

This quick snap before leaving for a project tour just doesn’t do it justice. This area of town always feels different to me, exciting I guess, an abandoned corridor right through the middle of town. It inspires hanging out – we snapped a few photos there awhile back and still see people doing the same.

Railroad2

Railroad6

It’s still functions as a transportation line for unassailed travel. Last year’s second place Adult About Ukiah haiku was about this area (about 2/3 of the way down the page).

Anywho, the original intent of this was to letcha know that there will be some Amplified Mixtape radio a-happenin’ tonight 10PM to midnight PST and streamed here for your listening pleasure. Now back to finishing a couple of school assignments, catcha later then!

Absolute Favorite

It’s funny how artists are listed on other artist’s albums. Like on this Rita Coolidge album I’m listening to there’s a whole slew of so-and-so “appears through courtesy” of Blank Records. Ownership. Reminds me of the Formerly-Known-As-Prince days. Anywho, speaking of records I struck the goldmine at Salvation Army – 40 good to great records for ten bucks. Getting full up in this here small treehouse :D Some are specifically to sell, some are unknown, some I know are real good. I’ve been getting the line on some great music lately in other avenues too. Life is good. It’d be better if I could spend more time laying on my floor for the next week, listening and really get into them.

Did some serious spring cleaning and the place feels real good. Trying to establish a bit of order here at the end of the school semester as late nights and early mornings take their toll. Time is so precious these days. Sometimes I wish my body were more machine, able to go about its business without fatigue. Been working full days, 6 days a week for a few months now and it’s catching up to me a bit. Looks like I’ll have some forced respite cuz the California budget crisis led to only a few summer school classes being offered and I’m unlikely to move up enough on the waitlist to get the two that I need. Means possibly not graduating in December. Sucks. I can work on my culminating project over the summer some and maaaaaaybe have it work out. We’ll see!

So the last radio show was a few weeks ago and I had some scheduling funk cuz of switching around for pledge drive. Suffice to say, it was not a put together show ;) I played long sets of songs from the following albums:

Polvo – Shapes
Television – Marquee Moon
The Breeders – Mountain Battles
The Old 97s – Too Far to Care

And then I turned in the paper that was due and did do a little mix:

Elvis Costello – (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes – My Aim Is True
Half Japanese – 1,000,000 Kisses – Greatest Hits
Seth Kaufman – Absolute Sway – Research
Dr. Dog – Ain’t It Strange – We All Belong
Haley Bonar – Am I Allowed – The Size Of Planets
Bob Dylan – All I Really Want to Do – Greatest Hits Volume II

The coolest part of my show is hearing from folks that are listening. It’s neat to see what people are responding to and want to know more about. Got a couple of those calls. And chatted with one guy who said that my show is his “absolute favorite” on the station along with another – how cool is that! Cool :D

Other bits: deer fence up, first shady veggies in, I can bend in half now (thx yoga), I’m looking forward to a mini vacation to see my sis in Denver, gonna ride on the back of a scooter for the first time ever (how sadly deprived am i huh, especially when I know I’m gonna love it!), um um, did my first storytime at the library, I’m almost through the book I started in December, I am looking forward to doing more hiking, and hopefully some kayaking and camping and tubing too! Watched Control last night, seriously awesome!!

Until later. Later!

The Great Chase

So the other day I was out catching some fresh air, and I hear some screaming down the street. Turning, I look and see two bikes racing this way. I start to make out the crying scream – “I don’t want it to end this way.” Over and over.

It’s 11:30 in the morning.

The guy is pedaling furiously in front. The screaming girl is struggling to keep up, choking and crying her refrain. It feels like a fight that should be happening after last call in the cover of night.

Suddenly the guy skids to a stop not far from the front of our building so I can easedrop. She catches up and he proceeds to call her ever kind of whore. Because she slept with his friend. And he’s adamant that she quit following him and he loads up and pedals even more furiously off (if that’s even possible).

Best dramatic bike chase ever.

So tonight is pledge drive radio. Tune in as I meet my alternate for the first time, play some kinda music, and ask for your support of local public radio. 10 PM to midnight streaming here. Go to the website and become a member! As ever, thank you all for being you :)

My computer speakers

are channeling some strange things. Bits of sound and voice. Sometimes it’s phone calls, sometimes it’s radio.

Speaking of, tonight is radio! Some Amplified Mixtape, 10PM to midnight streaming here or on 88.1/90.7/91.5 FM. So I’ll be there tonight and next week cuz next week is pledge drive! I’ll be meeting the other host Wade and having a good ol’ time :) But as for this time, mmm, I’ve got a bunch of new records and well see where it goes from there!
