Finally, rain!

I love it, the combination of smells. Dry dead grass becoming wet dead grass. Bay smelling so supremely delicious.
Stood out under the pitter-patter for a little bit. For the first real rain of the season. I just lit my pilot light in anticipation of a cool night, the smell of matches is sharp and [...]

Dazy Day Sketch

Mmm, these days are delicious. The days that make California the golden state. There’s not a thought of the out-of-control budget deficit, the lame ducks that aren’t helping matters any. I mean really, voting those props down means I want them to cut all that I hold dear, please…no. None of that actually.

After work and [...]

Lost an hour

but I’ve got the windows open and breaking up some book reviews with onion killing and sunshine soaks. If I just had another hour of it…

Unseasonable

It needs to get to raining. I was counting on horrible weather until summer when I signed up for three classes this semester. And they’re already talking about mandatory conservation starting next week. Days like these are not helping.

Loaded up the kayak and headed out on Orr Springs (always an incredible drive) to Comptche, pick [...]

Casa de Frijoles

Time to write. I even looked over a sampling of posts from the past year to see what I was up to. To remember. And hey, it was a pretty cool year. And

On my way out to Potter Valley for New Year’s I snapped this quickie of Lake Mendocino, a beautiful way to go [...]

Land Rich

Sometimes there are rare opportunities. I was privileged to spend the day with history, roaming thousands of acres, hearing amazing stories about how some of these roads were built, evolution of living and maintaining on the family ranch, jokes and jargon, incredible vistas that I was too involved with to even snap away at. I [...]

sundays are my day for

laying back

with some time

i wish my feet were
roots pushing deep into earth
searching for water
unusual fall
lawnmowers buzz in the sun
that shines on my arm

Try to Pay Attention

Breathe deep. Not paying attention to my feet; I trip on uneven sidewalk on top of root on top of earth.
Friendly cat makes eyes at me, purrs and closes them appreciatively with extra head scratching. Then, off! to watch some women teeing off at the nearby hole.
I ascend and start tilting forward. I [...]

Rat Pack, Addendum

Yes, I had to add an addendum. Because I just towel-flicked an opossum off the porch railing.
There’s no excess water in the planters. I don’t see any bite-marks on any of the plants to indicate that certain vitamins found only in spider plants are what calls the mammals up to my porch.
Sigh.
I don’t hate them. [...]

Rat Pack

Oh fucking yah. You guessed it. I have some rats. My night last night:
So my motion light goes on and I head out to go yell at the deer, and what do I see? A mutherfuckin rat starin at me. It’s on the railing up on my porch, and it just stares at me like, [...]
